Debrecen

Debrecen with its almost 205 thousand inhabitants is the second largest city in Hungary, and the city 220 kilometres far from Budapest has a rich history more than 6 centuries long. It is not only the cultural and scientific centre of the region, but also a marvellous place of various festivals and cultural events. By Road

Budapest is the most important Hungarian road terminus; all the major highways end there. The M3 is a Hungarian motorway connecting Budapest to Nyíregyháza. Two other motorways branch off it, the M30 (connecting the M3 to Miskolc) and the M35 connecting the M3 to Debrecen. The M3 follows the route of route 3, and, later, route 4. The total length of the motorway from Budapest to Debrecen is about 230 km. If you arrive at Ferihegy 2, you have to go to Ferihegy 1 by the bus 200E, it takes 15 minutes. You can buy train ticket at the Tourinform office at Ferihegy 1 from 8:00-22:00. The train station is near to Ferihegy 1, follow the signs.

By plane

Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport became part of the Schengen area. From this day onwards, passengers arriving from or departing to Schengen countries will be served at Terminal 2A, whereas non-Schengen traffic will be handled by Terminal 2B. The two terminals are connected via a transfer corridor; passengers connecting at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport may use this as the way to move between theterminals. More informations: website Terminals 2A and 2B are close neighbours, but there is a distance of 6 bus stops between them and Terminal 1.

Trains

In general, trains for Debrecen leave from Western (Nyugati) railway station. Passengers can easily reach Ferihegy railway station (Budapest Airport Terminal 1) from the Budapest Nyugati Railway Station. The travelling from the city center to the airport within less than half an hour. The two platforms of the railway station are connected to the Airport Terminal 1 with a pedestrian footbridge of Ferihegy railway station equipped with lifts above the clearway. A short pedestrian path of just 200 meters takes the passengers from the terminal to the Ferihegy railway station. A minibus service is available between Terminals 1 and 2 at the airport for 700 HUF per person. Ticket can be bought at all terminals at the desk of the Minibus Service. Public transportation is also available between the two terminals, by bus No.200. (6 stops, if the bus stops everywhere), please purchase your ticket from the driver for 350 HUF.
Arriving travelers can buy their tickets at Tourinform at Terminal 1 from 08.00 to 22.00 or at platform B at the railway station from the ticket vending machine. Please note, that you can pay only with cash, and only Hungarian Forints (HUF) are accepted. Exchange offices can be found at the terminals. The prices for the trains are cca 4200 HUF (2nd class) and 5000 HUF (1st class) in one direction, and includes seat reservation.

You can find the train route planner at the website of the Hungarian railway company. You can check the timetable on the website asking for a trip from: Ferihegy to: Debrecen. Please try to choose an InterCity with the sign "R", which means seat reservation is necessary on those trains in advance.

A taxi from the train station to the downtown of Debrecen (your hotels) may cost 2000 – 2500 HUF depending on the traffic conditions.

Bus transfer

Offer door-to-door service for you from Budapest Airport (from in front of the terminal) to your hotel in Debrecen and also returning to the airport after the conference. They are informed on your flight numbers, departure and arrival dates and cell phone number and can contact you. The service has to be ordered in advance.
